Hydrology Unit
Consequent upon the acceptance of recommendations of the Fact Finding Committee on Mumbai floods of July, 2005, appointed by the Government of Maharashtra, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has established a separate Hydrology Unit to study, in depth, the flooding scenario in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

A few projects implemented by the Hydrology Unit -
  • Contour survey of hydrometric area of MMR using photogrammetric techniques and basin wise river survey using total station and echo sounder is completed by May, 2012.
  • Collection of Tidal data (both sea water level & velocity) at various 11 locations is expected to be completed by early 2013.
  • Feasibility studies of Flood Zone Map Preparation and Real Time Flood Forecasting in progress.

Functions of Division

Prepare Flood Zoning Plans for the rivers in MMR
 
The following activities are outlined while preparing flood zoning plans for the rivers in MMR :
  • Contour survey of hydrometric area of MMR using photogrammetric techniques and basin wise river survey using total station and echo sounder was completed by May-2012..
  • Collection of Tidal data (both sea water level & velocity) at various 11 locations is expected to be completed by early 2013
