Overview

The Government of India and Department of Transportation (DoT) and the United States of America signed a Memorandum of Co-operation on 24th September, 2007 to manually assist in the fields of Public Transportation and Science. Further, the Government of Maharashtra and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) DoT, USA, signed a Memorandum of Co-operation on 29th September, 2008. Co-operation, primarily in the form of establishment of National Mass Transit Training and Research Institute (NaMTTRI) in Mumbai under the auspices of MMRDA. The fields of Co-operation and Collaboration include:

  • Public Transportation
  • Inter-modal Transportation
  • Transportation Safety
  • Transportation for Persons with disabilities
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Traffic and Transportation Information centres
  • Capacity building and Training in Public Transportation
  • Other fields of Mutual interest

The MMRDA has completed construction of NaMTTRI building on Plot No. R-13 of Bandra-Kurla Complex and will be functional soon. Three short training courses on Transportation planning, Integrated Fare System, Security, Public Transportation Issues, Urban Transport Reforms and Environment Sustainability have been organized by NaMTTRI in the year 2009, 2010 and 2012 so far. Officials from various organizations, involved in Planning, Design, Implementation, Operation & Maintenance of MRTS System from all over India attended these training programmes. Regular training programmes are being organized under the auspices of this institute.
