Legal Cell
MMRDA has an independent Legal Cell consisting of officials with profound legal knowledge and experience. The meticulous legal advices and opinions catered by the Legal Cell aids and facilitate MMRDA in effortlessly carrying out all its functions and responsibilities in consonance with the existing laws of the land. The Legal Cell reports to and functions directly under the command of the Hon’ble Additional Metropolitan Commissioner-II
The various responsibilities assigned unto the Legal Cell are classified under the following heads:
- Handling Litigation filed by or against MMRDA:
The Primary responsibility of Legal Cell is to defend MMRDA in all litigations instituted against MMRDA in various Courts, Tribunals, etc., across the country including the Apex Court. Similarly, the responsibility to initiate legal proceedings on behalf of MMRDA in various Courts, Tribunals, etc., across the country including the Apex Court is also casted upon the Legal Cell.
A separate panel of Advocates are also been appointed by MMRDA, in order to aid the Legal Cell in carrying out its aforesaid responsibility.
- Giving Legal Opinions:
The various Departments of MMRDA seek legal opinion from the Legal Cell in respect of the issues encountered by them while carrying out their respective functions. After meticulously perusing those issues, the erudite Legal Officials of the Legal Cell, provides their opinions.
- Drafting and Vetting:
Legal Cell is also bestowed with the responsibility of drafting and vetting of all types of Legal Documents including, Tender Bid Documents, Agreement, Lease Deeds, Deed of Conveyances, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), etc.
- Responding to RTI Applications:
Legal Cell also timely responds to the Applications made to it under the Right To Information Act, 2005 by providing all permissible and precise information sought therein.
